Welcome originates from an Old English meaning “a desired guest”. We often say it as a form of greeting and manner to other people. This is one of the first few months of the new academic school year and since there are many new things in our school, Grade 9 is creating a school newspaper so, our team and I would like to say welcome or welcome back to UIA.
As mentioned earlier, this is still the beginning of the 2021 - 22 school year and this year has new improvements. The school has introduced new schedules, new clubs, new students, and new teachers, so I’d like to take this opportunity to give them a warm welcome as well as a welcome back to all the students from our spring and Golden Week vacation.
To start off everything, I’d like to introduce to you the new newspaper team of UIA International School of Tokyo. This team, including myself, is handled by the current Grade 9 of UIA. As we are starting this new school year, we can’t wait to help spread the new events and updates to the students of UIA. Currently, the UIA Times, our newspaper, is only available to Grades 4 and above. Once we are more improved and organized, we plan to spread the newspaper across kindergarten, Grades 1 to 3, and parents. In addition, if you would like to share these with your parents or younger siblings, feel free to do so. The printed newspaper will include the main updates and will be distributed monthly. The online version however, will be updated more frequently and also has many entertainment features which is handled by the entertainment department. All students and teachers are also welcome to submit any articles of their interest to be posted onto the website. The newspaper team also promotes the advice column. The advice column allows students to communicate about their problems and queries to some of the Grade 9 students. In lieu with this, please do note that this is advice coming from students.
Secondly, I’d like to say welcome to the new special programs. The school now provides classes such as Judo, Key Club, Spanish Club, Cooking Club, and etc. These clubs are taught by our school teachers and give new skills to the students other than studying for 6 hours a day.
Finally, I’d like to say welcome to the new teachers and students. As a school, we’re overjoyed to see the school expand and grow more improvement as the year passes. This year specifically, out of all the school years I’ve been here, I have seen a great improvement in the whole school system. I hope all the students and teachers find it comfortable in the new system and I hope that we can create a more sociable place. I find it greatly interesting in meeting new people and I’d like to know everyone better. This doesn’t only apply to me but to many others so I hope everyone can make new friends and spread a more positive environment for the school. To all new students, I’d like to say to feel free to talk to anyone you see around the school. Everyone has a very unique personality and are friendly so I hope you’ll find a new acquaintance and new friends.
I hope this year goes well for all of you and I can’t wait to see our school expand more. I hope you’ll be interested in writing articles and reading the school newspaper.
