Looking Back at 2021 and It’s Significant Events


Let’s be honest, a lot of unexpected events happened this year, from good and bad. There’s a lot of events happening each month but there are some particular events. These are the highlights of each month;


January main event:


  • Election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the United States. Biden, having run three times for president, from 1988 and again in 2008, for the third time in 2021. With the want to build on the legacy of Former President Obama, healthcare is Joe Biden’s first priority. Looking at Kamala Harris, she is first in a lot of things including, as first ever female vice president and first Indian-American senator.

February main event:

  • NASA Rover lands on Mars. NASA Rover, Perseverance, with a Mars helicopter on its belly, has landed on Mars on the 18th of February. It has set milestones that have beaten other milestones of other rovers, such as the longest drive in a martian day, six samples and counting of Mars’ rock. It also has a milestone for sending 100,000 photos including two “selfies” they call it.

March main event:

  • Announcement that Meghan and Harry’s plans to leave the royal family of Britain,

Short after the announcement of the second child of Meghan and Harry, it was announced that they were not going to return to their royal roles, they will not be using their “other” names such as the “duke” or “duchess” They have mentioned that they will carve a new progressive role.


April main event:

  • Prince Philip’s death. Prince Philip was Elizabeth the second's “strength and stay” for 73 years. When Prince Philip died, he was just a few months from his 100th birthday, before his birthday, his longest stay in the hospital for a month due to his heart surgery. Due to corona, his funeral was moved to a later date.


June main event:

  • People experience one of the biggest heat waves in history. People in the US Pacific Northwest have experienced some big heat waves. Such as 116 Farenheit in Poland, 108 fahrenheit in Seattle. It also extended to places such as Canada.

July main event:

  • Plane Crash, Philippines. It was a military plane, holding 96 military personnel and crew members. At least more than 40 people died in the crash, the rest had gotten injured. The plane was supposed to go to another country to help fight terrorism.

August main event:

  • Tokyo olympics. Due to corona the 2020 Olympics were moved to 2021. Outside the stadiums, there were people taking videos and photos. All the events were played live on TV. In the end though, in the end America had the most gold medals.


September main event:

  • Prison riot in Ecuador. Two rival gangs selling drugs, had gotten into a fight. There were prison riots even before September, but the prison riot in September was the most brutal, killing 119 inmates. 68 people were also killed.


October main event:

  • North and South Korea open communications to each other. After communication channels were closed from North and South Korea for almost a year, during October it has opened again. It had been because of the setting up of the Summit meetings and issues.

November main event:

  • Historic elections. In the US, some may call this an upset but Virginia’s elected Republican-candidate has been chosen as Winsome Sears. Sears being the first woman of color, they say, with a position in the state. Later on, Michelle Wu has come to be Boston’s woman of color for mayor. Cincinnati and Seattle as well have chosen their very first Asian-American mayors.

December main event:

  • UK First omicron death. Even if you have been vaccinated, it doesn’t mean you can’t have the virus. In December, the UK reported its first death due to omicron, a virus. More than 4,000 cases of omicron have already been reported. Due to the fact everyone was getting booster shots meant that the UK had to buy/trade off more money to be able to get more vaccine shots. Later on, the NHS has called on that they are one the highest level of emergency.



Frankly speaking, 2020 was also a difficult year for all of us, and we all hoped that 2021 would be better, it’s your opinion if it became better. Now, let us all hope this year will be better, with lesser downfalls. All the best for this 2022!
